I kept thinking of Psalm 15 while reading this...

Psalms 15 (NIV)

A psalm of David.

LORD, who may dwell in your sacred tent?

Who may live on your holy mountain?

The one whose walk is blameless,

who does what is righteous,

who speaks the truth from their heart;

whose tongue utters no slander,

who does no wrong to a neighbor,

and casts no slur on others;

who despises a vile person

but honors those who fear the LORD;

who keeps an oath even when it hurts,

and does not change their mind;

who lends money to the poor without interest;

who does not accept a bribe against the innocent.

Whoever does these things

will never be shaken.

I enjoyed your article and thoughts. I especially enjoyed your thoughts on mentorship and how our 5 closest relationship determine our trajectory.

May God richly blessed us with His presence so we all can become “Holy Men of God.”

This was one of the most important pieces I've read in the last few years. I wrote each of these down and plan to meditate on (and practice!) them for years to come. I look forward to seeing how you develop these ideas in the future.

"Before you read it, I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments or in an email about what you think the characteristics of a Holy Man would be in 2023."

I spent about 10 minutes thinking about the characteristics I would put on such a list (before reading your list, as requested):

A holy man knows and follows Jesus of Nazareth, forsaking all other loyalties

A holy man fights for a good cause

A holy man defends the defenseless against the dangers of this world

A holy man does hard things and finds joy in them

A holy man demonstrates perseverance in the long slow struggle for goodness

A holy man is courageous and inspires courage in others

A holy man is who he says he is

A holy man is generous and self-sacrificing with his body, time, and resources

A holy man is gentle and kind, especially with children, the elderly, the infirm, and anyone weaker than himself

A holy man is honest and follows through on his promises

A holy man works to prevent, undo, and fix the effects of injustice

A holy man takes on younger male apprentices and leads them to become holy men
